Life can be challenging and confusing, especially in times of change or loss. Having a space to talk openly and honestly to someone who is independent and neutral can help you to make sense of it all.
I offer a place where you can explore your life, who you are, your environment and others around you. I offer nurturing and respectful support to help you through the difficult parts and give you the opportunity to express how you feel. I believe that you are a unique individual and counselling can give you an opportunity to develop self awareness and a place where the possibility of change and healing can occur. This safe and non judgemental space can allow you to find your own voice where you can gain insight and understanding of your issues. Self discovery can help you to make clearer choices in your life and bring to light long-held beliefs that limit your potential.I believe that everyone has the capacity to change and reach their full potential.
Early in my professional career I trained as a nurse and I am a nursing sister in a hospital where I continue to work on a part time basis. It has been a passion of mine for over 20 years. I came to train as a counsellor as I believe my personal experience of counselling offered me change and valuable insight through difficult times in my life. It also helped me to understand what it is like to be a client and the process of counselling itself.
I am a fully qualified Integrative counsellor and have received a BSc (hons) in Integrative counselling at Middlesex University. I value on-going education as part of my continuing professional and personal development. In addition to my training and experience I hope my friendly personality will put you at ease during our sessions. Many are stuck and longing for change and it is my goal to help you to move forward in your life. I have found that therapy can empower a person to influence their life in ways they desire.
Prior to establishing my own private practice, I have worked for various charities as a counsellor. I am a registered practitioner of the UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy) and abide by their ethical guidelines for good practice.
My approach is relational and my focus is to offer you the space where you are heard, understood and not judged. I believe that the relationship between myself and my client is fundamental for therapy to be effective. Our beliefs about ourselves are based on our life experiences, so when our experiences are negative the beliefs we form are likely to be negative as well. We can feel we have little value and are inadequate. I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship to bring about empowerment and change and will work with you to facilitate this.
I offer a confidential space for you to explore openly your concerns or difficulties as coping can sometimes become too hard to do alone, and often difficult to share our feelings with the people in our lives.
